After breakfast at the hotel, your tour guide and driver will come to pick you up at your hotel and start driving to Pokhara. All baggage and necessary items or your belongings will be safely placed inside the jeep or attached to the jeep's rooftop. The road from Kathmandu to Pokhara is known as the Prithvi Highway. The Highway is widely connected to the western part of Nepal, including India and Tibet (China), thus it is often very busy. The road passes through the Trisuli River bank and often via the beautiful countryside, which offers greenery, rivers, waterfalls, terraced fields, picturesque villages, farming fields, and beautiful snow-capped mountain scenery. Along the way, you can see the eighth world’s eighth-highest mountain Manaslu, including several of its neighbors. The Queen City Pokhara will present massive views of the Holy Mt. Machhapuchhre, Mt. Annapurna Himalayan ranges, and Mt. Dhaulagiri, and make a fantastic evening excursion around the Lakeside in Pokhara.

Our journey starts just after breakfast, we take a drive via Naudanda, Nayapul to Beni. The road to Beni is well blacktopped, then follows a bumpy, rough road alongside the Kali Gandaki River Bank. Frequently, mountain views appear on the northern side, with beautiful countryside, green hills, and scattered different ethnical villages approaching along the way. The enjoyable and amazing drive would be stopped at Tatopani for a while. We probably have lunch at this famous hot Spring and then start driving by passing Danaque, the deepest gorge in the world, near beautiful Waterfalls. Jeep will drive along the narrow Kalingadaki River bank that is full of scenic and cultural sites. The Mustang region starts at LETE. Let's go to the Jomsom Bazaar is known as the Thak Khola Valley. Within this region, there are Kalopani village, Kopcha village, Larjung village, Kobang village, Tukuche village, Marpha village, Thingar village, etc They follow the Buddhist religion and have unique culture, traditions, and history. These villages are very beautiful, and their way of life is very unique and spellbinding. The fields are full of Himalayan sweet apples and organic vegetables. Compounds are decoratively built up, and house designs are incredible. Finally, you arrive in the windy and arid landscape at Jomsom and overnight at a good hotel.

You will also see a long Mani wall beyond the Ghami village, that Mani wall is believed to be the longest Mani wall in Upper Mustang. Locally, there is a very unique fairytale about the Red Hill wall at Dhakmar village and the longest Mani wall at Ghami. They believe that once in a while, there was a big power competition between Rimpoche and a demon. And, the Rimpoche won over a demon with his magical mantras and shook harder at him. At the same time intestine of the demon escaped and formed the longest Mani wall, and his blood cultivated a red wall beyond Dhakmar.

lhomanthang

The white-walled city, or the City within a wall, the oldest monasteries such as Jampa Gompa, Thubchen Gompa, Chhodey Gompa, Gompa museum, incredible inner alley within the walled city, the King's palace, Buddhist arts, paintings, and Buddhist school, as well as so many ancient Tibetan traditions. Also, you will observe domestic animals (cows, yaks, Tibetan goats, donkeys, horses) caravan in the morning towards pasturelands and in the evening back home. If you have some more time, then you can visit Tingar village and ancient castles beyond Lo- Lo-Manthang. The castle had already fallen, and ruins remain on the hilltop. The views of Lo-Manthang Valley are spectacular from these ancient castle points.

The tour for the day is again very exciting and curious. We visit Ngiphu Monastery for the ancient Buddhist traditions and Jhong caves at Chhosser village. Jhong Cave is a very mysterious and amazing artificial cave in Chosser. It's a five-story structure perched on the edge of a precipice. There are almost 40 chambers and multiple ladders leading to higher levels. There are different tales about these mysterious Jhong caves, Some people say that these caves were used as disposal sites for dead people. On the other hand, some people say that in ancient times, there were frequent wars around the Himalayas and Tibet. The winner used to kill every warrior, including the child and mother who were defeated; that’s why a group of warriors arrived at Chhosser and started to shelter at the same time by perching in the Sky caves. They made a single entrance door to climb up, but widely spread different chambers inside the hills.

jhongcave

They have made tiny windows as well. The tiny windows are for light, low flow of cold wind, and spying on enemies or attackers from other groups. Enemies could not throw rocks or anything to harm from the lower, if enemies tried to get inside the caves, then whole groups from the Jhong Caves used to throw and roll rocks upon them. So that life inside these caves was secured and protected. Also, there is another belief that the cave was built during the Khamba (Tibetan) War. People from Chhoser and other villages used to hide inside the interior, resembling a tunnel, while other people used to attack or threaten them. Except for these major mysterious caves, there are several artificial caves around the area. Some caves are still used for shelter. It takes a couple of hours to visit this area and drive towards the Friendship Customary Border between Nepal and Tibet. We make a pass called Korolla 4,660 Meters, which is known as the lowest pass from Nepal to Tibet. After the Korolla Pass, we can drive a little ahead to see the land of Tibet, and then drive back to Lo-Manthang.

Tatopani

Today, we drive back down the same route we came through. We make a break for nice photography wherever we find good viewpoints. Check out the Special permit at Kagbeni and lunch at Jomsom bazaar, then enjoy frequent driving along the Kaligandaki River bank to Tatopani. Today, you will have a golden chance to take a Natural hot spring bath at Tatopani. Hot Spring may provide a refreshing massage to your tired body as well as natural cleansing. Overnight at a nice hotel.

Altitude sickness:

Altitude sickness (acute mountain sickness) is difficulty of sleeping, dizziness, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, rapid pulse, nausea, vomiting, etc. It affects mountain climbers, hikers, and skiers because of lower air pressure and lower oxygen levels. It occurs as the result of failure to adapt at a higher altitude. It happens most often in the brains or the longs after the fluid begins to leak from the blood vessels.

When the fluid collects in the brain, you initially get headaches, loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, want to lie down and feel powerless, physically moving is unwilling, and a decrease of consciousness, and the problem with balance coordination is called high–altitude cerebral edema (HACE). If the fluid is collected in the lungs, you become breathless and dry, and it makes regular irritative cough, sometimes coughing up blood too, discoloration of the skin, and chest tightness is called high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE).

Prevention:

To prevent acute mountain sickness; we have to follow fundamental gravity habits such as patience, consistency, and discipline in the mountain. The mountains have their own rule and regulations. We cannot turn them into our nature except by following and respecting them. Cloth on properly according to the altitude, avoid rapid altitude gain, drink enough water or fluid, take enough acclimatization time to adjust the body at a higher altitude, avoid alcoholic items, control smoking, eat regular meals, get higher & sleep at lower altitudes. Avoid high altitudes if you have heart and lung disease. If the symptoms occur then stop climbing mountains and descend to a lower altitude. In case the person is seriously sick, or cannot bring him/her to a lower altitude by walking and carrying then she/he should be rescued by quick Helicopter evacuation.

Clothing Equipment:

  • Lightweight walking boots, a pair of track shoes, and slippers to wear in the evening or when the boot is wet.
  • Warm jacket (Fibers fill or down should be adequate.)
  • Warm clothes or fleece jackets.
  • Thin and thick trousers.
  • Warm trousers are useful higher up in the mountains in the morning and at night.
  • Thermal underwear (These are excellent for sleeping at night)
  • A pair of loose-fitting long shorts and 1 lightweight long-sleeved –shirt are particularly suitable.
  • A woolen or warm hat to wear in the morning and at night. Sunhat and ensure it has a wide brim to cover the face and neck.
  • A pair of gloves (warm and normal ones)
  • 2 pairs of thin and 2 pairs of thick warm socks.
  • Underwear, buff, and hankies as you need.
  • Accessories:

Duffle bag or kit bag to carry your gears and Small rucksack to carry personal equirements for the day e.g. toilet paper, towel, soap, etc. Water bottle. Snow glasses and sunglasses, 2-4 large plastic bags to separate clean clothes from dirty ones. Headlamp with spare batteries, sun cream, personal medicine, lip guard, toothbrush, towel, Reading materials, game items (optional), notebook, rubber band, pen and pencil, a diary, a pocket knife, trekking map, passport, and copies.
