Itinerary

Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, greeted with flower garlands & transferred to the Hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu on B/B (bed and breakfast) planning basis.

During the high tourist season, flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are impossible. Most tourists get to drive in the middle of the night from Kathmandu to Manthali for the next day’s morning flight. But we recommend moving a day earlier from Kathmandu to nearby Manthali. That will provide the perfect countryside views of Nepal and also would not make the rush and uncomfortable drive.

25 minutes of morning flight from Manthali airport to Lukla & trek begins gently on the left bank of the Dudh Koshi River via Chaurikharka village, Kyangzoma, Thado Koshi, Ghat, and overnight at Phakding 2600 m. 3-4 hours

Lukla
Tenzing Hillary Airport

We commence our trek to Namche Bazaar through the Dudh Koshi gorge.  There are so many suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. A long zigzag trail leads us through Banker, Monjo to Jorsalle, the check post of Sagarmatha National Park. Thamserku, Kusumgaru, and Kwongde Mountain are visible, and the Khumbila peak is standing over the Namche Bazaar. We follow a short walk along the riverbed of this V-shaped valley, where the Dudh Koshi River comes from the right and the Bhote Koshi River comes from the left. The conjoint point is called Dovan with a very high suspension bridge. Now we begin a steep ascent to Namche Bazar. We make a quick stop just over the shoulder. From there, you will have an excellent view of Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8516m).Then it takes approximately 45 minutes of uphill walking to arrive at Namche Bazaar

Local Bucher

It is considered an ideal day for altitude acclimatization in this place. After the peaks climb higher around the museum, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, Nuptse, Amadablam, Thamserku, Kusumkangaru, Kwongde Peak, and Thame Peak are awaiting your warm greeting. It would be the best morning ever in your travel time, then follow the steep climb up to the world’s highest airstrip, Syangboche Airport. Turn towards the Everest View Hotel and the hidden Khumjung village for a day excursion, and visit the monastery. This monastery has a steel preserving a yeti’s head, then get back down to Namche by the side of Khumjung school, or visit Khunde village hospital. Then, directly descend to Namche Bazaar overnight.

You have to walk through the same way, just up to the Museum, then take a right, a flat, easy trail to the Himalayas. The mountain view is widely spread all around, make a small break in Chhumoa and follow the path that is heading to the riverside Lowsasa and Fungitanga. From Fungitanga, it is a steep climb through the pine, fir trees, juniper, and rhododendron forest up to Tyangboche Monastery. Visit the holy monastery in the evening and get back to your lodge for Dinner.

Kyangjuma

Leaving Tyangboche Monastery at the backdrop, we descend through a rhododendron forest and enter Dibuche. Cross a suspension bridge at Imja Khola, climb to the ancient Sherpa village Pangboche, and lunch in Sommare (a little hamlet). Then follow the classic trail for half an hour and enter Imjatse Valley beneath the mighty peaks of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Nuptse, and Lhotse. Dingboche comparatively warmer village than others; however, it is at a higher altitude. Overnight at a local hotel/lodge

This is a suitable place to have an acclimatization day or for more to ensure avoiding altitude sickness. After breakfast, you can take a hike up to Nartsang Peak at an altitude of 5000m or Chhukung Peak (5320m) and back to Dingboche overnight.

Walk slowly to the left first ridge where some stupas are standing, and take a trail just above the Pheriche village along the yak pasturelands, it seems a very closed way, however takes a longer time to arrive at Thukla. Several mountain views are privileged on the way, and it may be a windy walk; you will see the giant edge of the Khumbu glacier just over the Thukla. It has a very steep path to the top; thousands of mountaineers have lost their lives in the Himalayas. Follow the moraine trail along the hidden valley up to the mountains and stop at a little settlement, Lobuche.

Lobuche

It takes almost 3 hours of a demanding walk through the Gyazungkhang glacier, the rocky gregarious moraine trail, and the giant longe bed of Khumbu glacier to the right side. Mt. Pumori, Nuptse, Gyzungkhang, and Ngozumba are towering Mountains. You arrive by lunchtime at Gorakshep and take an Everest base camp tour in the afternoon. And back to Gorakshep overnight.

Everest Base Camp

Wake up very early in the morning and take 1.5 hours of an excursion up to Kalapathhar's 5,545m viewpoint for the massive views, and get down to the lodge for breakfast. Return to Lobuche and follow a small track towards Chola tse and overnight at a small settlement.

Trek to Thagnak (4700m.) Today is a very important day for our trek to cross the Chola Pass at 5,420m. You have to eat breakfast very early in the morning and follow a little track towards the brown Rocky Mountains.  The trail is very demanding and has very beautiful views of several mountains, including the world’s highest peaks. It goes via a rocky climb, snow boulder to the pass, then it is slippery downhill to the moraine and a huge flat barren pasture field. Your muscles must be very tired, so drink some water and eat some bars, then continue down to the narrow valley on the fold of the hill. 6 hrs.

Cholapass
Chola Pass - 5,420 Meters

Passing the way along a large glacier called Ngozumba is a fantastic day. Walking on the glacier, you feel like an ant walking in a sandy globe. The path is difficult to find in the glacier because it is moving every year during the rainy and fall season, so you have to search for the stone man and then follow the side track to Gokyo. After lunch, just get up to the edge of Glassier and enjoy the panoramic wide view of Mt. Cho Oyu, Gokyo Lake, Ngojumba Glacier, and Gokyo Peak. 3 hours

Explore Gokyo Ri early in the morning, which may take three hours up and down. Gokyo Ri is one of the best viewpoints that offers a panoramic view of Mt. Everest 8,848m, Lhotse 8,516m, Lhotse Shar 8,383m, Makalu 8,481m and Cho Oyu 8,201m and several other mountains such as Mt. Pumori (7161m), Ngozumba, Gyazungkhang, Tawatse, Cholatse, Mt. Changste (7550m), Mt. Lingterin (6679m), Mt. Amadablam (6856m), Bharuntse, Thamserku (6723m), Kantega( 6685m), etc. And a huge Ngozumba glacier and a fine view of the local Lakes. Descend to the lodge for breakfast, then follow the trail downwards alongside the 2nd lakes to Machhermo for overnight. 7 hours

gokyo

Walking down via Luza, Lapharma, and Dole is quite comfortable. Also, it is quite easier to descend, make a day break at Phortse, and pass the Mongla danda then via a flat way to Namche Bazaar for overnight. 6 hours.

We meet so many trekkers today because most of the trekkers follow the same route until Namche Bazaar. Descending 600 m down to Dovan and a long zigzag trail via several Sherpa settlements to Lukla. Today we will have a farewell dinner together with every crew.

namche

Take a morning domestic flight to Manthali and drive with a private vehicle back to Kathmandu, and free afternoon. 3 hours

Useful Info

Domestic flights to and from Lukla

Note: Because of a heavy traffic jam at the International airport in Kathmandu and the necessity of several domestic flights to Lukla, flight operation was shifted to the nearest airport.

The Tribhuwan International Airport and the domestic Airport are partially the same in Kathmandu. Thus, it used to be heavy air traffic during international flights. The domestic flight schedule will often be interrupted by International flights.

The domestic flight to Lukla mostly departs early in the morning with small aircraft. The legendary Everest trek begins from Lukla, so most trekkers to the Everest region usually fly in and out from Lukla. Often, the higher volume of trekkers want to visit the Everest region. So, there should be several scheduled flights every day. Thus, Nepal Aviation had decided to operate smooth flights from the nearest airport to Kathmandu during the main trekking and peak season. The nearest airport is in the countryside called Manthali Ramechhap, which needs approximately 4 hours of off-road driving.

The flights are effective from the beginning of October to the End of November in autumn and March to mid-May in spring.

We recommend our clients move a day earlier from Kathmandu to nearby Manthali for the flight to Lukla. That will provide the perfect views of the countryside, also that will not be a rushed and uncomfortable drive.

Most trekkers get driven in the middle of the night from Kathmandu to Manthali for the next day’s morning flight. There would be some discomfort, such as less sleep that night, if you do not arrive on time at the airport, the flight can be missed. You never know what is happening and going on the road in the countryside.

Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness (acute mountain sickness) is difficulty sleeping, dizziness, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, rapid pulse, nausea, vomiting, etc. It affects mountain climbers, hikers, and skiers because of lower air pressure and lower oxygen levels. It occurs as a result of failure to adapt at a higher altitude. It happens most often in the brain or the lungs after the fluid begins to leak from the blood vessels.

When the fluid collects in the brain, you initially get headaches, loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, a desire to lie down and feel powerless, physical movement is unwilling, and a decrease in consciousness, and the problem with balance coordination is called high–altitude cerebral edema (HACE). If the fluid is collected in the lungs, you become breathless and dry, and it causes a regular irritative cough, sometimes coughing up blood too, discoloration of the skin, and chest tightness is called high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE).

Prevention

To prevent acute mountain sickness, we have to follow fundamental gravity habits such as patience, consistency, and discipline in the mountains. The mountains have their own rule and regulations. We cannot turn them into our nature except by following and respecting them. Cloth properly according to the altitude, avoid rapid altitude gain, drink enough water or fluid, take enough acclimatization time to adjust the body at a higher altitude, avoid alcoholic items, control smoking, eat regular meals, and get higher & sleep at lower altitudes. Avoid high altitudes if you have heart and lung disease. If the symptoms occur heavily, then stop detting altitude descend to a lower altitude.

In case the person is seriously sick or cannot bring him/her to a lower altitude by walking and carrying, then she/he should be rescued by a quick Helicopter evacuation.
