Details about the Lower Solu to Everest Base Camp Fairyland Trek:

The lower part of the Everest region is called Solu, and the upper part is Khumbu. By unitedly it is called Solukhumbu, which is a District in Nepal. Solu (lower part) is densely scattered villages of different ethnical groups, fertile terraced fields for agriculture, sub-tropical forest and terrain, water streams/ Rivers, and Khumbu is a package of the world’s highest dominant Mountains. Solu is highly populated, with multi-cultures/traditions/ religious sectors, connected with airlines and rough, tough road transport with other urban areas. Khumbu is only connected with airline transport and Buddhist Buddhist-dominated sector.

solu

There are different ways to get into the Everest Base Camp trek. Amongst them, Solu- EBC trekking is driving from Kathmandu to Sallery-Thamdanda by jeep and starting trekking on foot via Paiya village, Chheubass, Surke village, and Chaurikharka, then joining the major trail at Chhoplung.

Starting trekking from Solu is a big convergence of classic discoveries. Driving from Kathmandu to Sallery- Thamdanda is a complete package of multi ethnical cultures, ways of life, and natural diversities. This trek provides experiences of a lowlander to a highlander, farmer zone to the alpinist zone, warm tropical atmosphere to the freezing temperature of the high Himalayas.

Itinerary

Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, greete with flower garlands and transported to the hotel, and overnight at B/B planning.

arrival

Trekking preparation day or sightseeing around the cultural world heritage sites in Kathmandu.

Drive a Jeep very early in the morning from Kathmandu. The road passes through several countryside, Rivers, ridges, waterfalls, jungles, and hills with magnificent views. We will have an exciting experience of different cultures, traditions, religions, and ethnic diversities of ethnics.

Breakfast at sallery Bazaar and change to another four-wheel jeep for the rough road up to Thamdanda. The road is completely bumpy; however, it passes through several beautiful villages in the Lower part of the Everest Region. The Lower belt of the Everest Region is agriculturally very productive, as well as provides the best scenery.

Jeep will drive you until the last possible point surrounding Thamdanda and start your trekking along the legendary path. The road construction is underway up to Surke village, so the trail may have dusty and rocky passes. The Dudhkoshi River bank, Mt. Kongde, and some snow-capped mountains provide the best views along the way.

Trekking from Paiya via Pakhepani is an incredible place for amazing scenery. Surke is a famous Sherpa village and the birthplace of the national Luminary ex. Female Nepali climber Pasang Lhamu Sherpa. Follow a small, gradual path towards the Mountain Valley. Lukla lies approximately 300 m away up from the ridge, and domestic flights start very early in the morning from Lukla. You may see frequent airline and helicopter flights departing and arriving along the path. Just take a lower path to Musse by crossing the suspension bridge at Handikhola without climbing up to Lukla. Musse is another typical Sherpa village with lots of Buddhist Mantras carved in Manstone. Pass the village and meet a major trekking trail from Lukla at Chhoplung and follow the path via Thado Koshi, Ghat to Phakding, and overnight at the local lodge.

jorsalle

We commence our trek to Namche Bazaar through the Dudh Koshi gorge.  There are so many suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. A long zigzag trail leads us through Banker, Monjo to Jorsalle, the check post of Sagarmatha National Park. Thamserku, Kusumgaru, and Kwongde Mountain are visible, and Khumbila Peak is standing over the Namche Bazaar. We follow a short walk along the riverbed of this V-shaped valley, where the Dudh Koshi River comes from the right and the Bhote Koshi River comes from the left. The conjoint point is called Dovan with a very high suspension bridge. Now we begin a steep ascent to Namche Bazar. We make a quick stop just over the shoulder. From there, you will have an excellent view of Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8516m). Then it takes approximately 45 minutes of uphill walking to arrive at Namche Bazaar

It is considered an ideal day for altitude acclimatization in this place. After the mountains climb higher around the museum, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, Nuptse, Amadablam, Thamserku, Kusumkangaru, Kwongde Peak, and Thame Peak are awaiting your warm greeting. It would be the best morning ever in your travel time, then follow the steep climb up to the world’s highest airstrip, Syangboche Airport. Turn towards the Everest View Hotel and the hidden Khumjung village for a day excursion, and visit the monastery. This monastery has steel preserving a yeti’s head, then get back down to Namche by the side of Khumjung school, or visit Khunde village hospital. Then, directly descend to Namche Bazaar overnight.

namache

You have to walk through the same way, just up to the Museum, then take a right, a flat, easy trail to the Himalayas. The mountain view is widely spread all around, make a small break in Chhumoa and follow the path that is heading to the riverside Lowsasa and Fungitanga. From Fungitanga, it is a steep climb through the pine, fir trees, juniper, and rhododendron forest up to Tyangboche Monastery. Visit the holy monastery in the evening and get back to your lodge for Dinner.

tyangboche

Leaving Tyangboche Monastery at the backdrop, we descend through a rhododendron forest and enter Dibuche. Cross a suspension bridge at Imja Khola, climb to the ancient Sherpa village Pangboche, and lunch in Sommare (a little hamlet). Then follow the classic trail for half an hour and enter Imjatse Valley beneath the mighty peaks of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Nuptse, and Lhotse. Dingboche comparatively warmer village than the others; however, it is higher. Overnight at  local hotel/lodge

This is a suitable place to have an acclimatization day or for more to ensure avoiding altitude sickness. After breakfast, you can take a hike up to Nartsang Peak at an altitude of 5000m or Chhukung Peak (5320m) and back to Dingboche overnight.

views

Walk slowly to the left first ridge where some stupas are standing, and take a trail just above the Pheriche village along the yak pasturelands, it seems a very closed way, however takes a longer time to arrive at Thukla. Several mountain views are privileged on the way, and maybe a windy walk, you will see the giant edge of the Khumbu glacier just over the Thukla. It has a very steep path to the top; thousands of mountaineers have lost their lives in the Himalayas. Follow the moraine trail along the hidden valley up to the mountains and stop at a little settlement, Lobuche.

lobuche

It takes almost 3 hours of a demanding walk through the Gyazungkhang glacier, the rocky gregarious moraine trail, and the giant longe bed of Khumbu glacier to the right side. Mt. Pumori, Nuptse, Gyzungkhang, and Ngozumba are towering Mountains. You arrive by lunchtime at Gorakshep and take an Everest base camp tour in the afternoon. And back to Gorakshep overnight.

Everest is very nicely visible from Kalapatthar. Mt. Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Lingtren, Khumbutse, a wide range of Everest basecamp, Khumbu icefall, a long range of giant Khumbu glacier, Mt. Makalu, Bharuntse, Amadablam, Tauche, Thamserku, and a complete Himalayan glacier covering landscape are visible. Pumori base camp lies just below Kalapatthar with gleaming Glacier Lake. Achieving steps on Kalapatthar is the ultimate mission and the worth of your travel. Get back to the lodge for breakfast and return home from Gorakshep to Pheriche.

Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness (acute mountain sickness) is difficulty sleeping, dizziness, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, rapid pulse, nausea, vomiting, etc. It affects mountain climbers, hikers, and skiers because of lower air pressure and lower oxygen levels. It occurs as the result of failure to adapt at a higher altitude. It happens most often in the brain or the lungs after the fluid begins to leak from the blood vessels.

When the fluid collects in the brain, you initially get headaches, loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness, a desire to lie down and feel powerless, physically moving is unwilling, a decrease in consciousness, and the problem with balance coordination is called high–altitude cerebral edema (HACE). If the fluid is collected in the lungs, you become breathless and dry, and it makes a regular irritative cough, sometimes coughing up blood too, discoloration of the skin, and chest tightness is called high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE).

Prevention

To prevent acute mountain sickness, we have to follow fundamental gravity habits such as patience, consistency, and discipline in the mountains. The mountains have their own rule and regulations. We cannot turn them into our nature except by following and respecting them. Cloth properly according to the altitude, avoid rapid altitude gain, drink enough water or fluid, take enough acclimatization time to adjust the body at a higher altitude, avoid alcoholic items, control smoking, eat regular meals, get higher & sleep at lower altitudes. Avoid high altitudes if you have heart and lung disease. If the symptoms occur heavily, then stop detting altitude descend to a lower altitude.

In case the person is seriously sick, or cannot bring him/her to a lower altitude by walking and carrying, then she/he should be rescued by a quick Helicopter evacuation.
