Ancient alpine pastureland experience

Unobstructed, Panoramic Views: Khopra Danda offers 360-degree panoramic views with Off-the-Beaten-Path & Quiet

While thousands flock to the Annapurna Base Camp, you’ll often have few people or yourself on the trails and viewpoints.

The trek includes an optional challenging but rewarding day-hike from the ridge that takes you to this sacred alpine lake (4,660m), nestled at the foot of Annapurna South, a deeply spiritual site for locals.

Community lodges are more basic than the luxury teahouses in Ghorepani. Expect shared bathrooms and limited electricity (often solar-powered).

The trek features a stunning, high ridge-top walk, often called "floating above the world," with direct views of the deepest valley in the world, the Kali Gandaki, and ridge meadows.

It is considered a moderate, accessible, and relatively short trek, ideal for children, senior citizens, families, and trekkers with average fitness levels.

The route passes through dense rhododendron forests, lush green meadows with grazing yaks, and traditional Gurung and Magar villages.

Khopra Danda Trek (Khopra Ridge Trek)

Khopra

The Khopra Danda Trek is one of the Annapurna region’s best-kept secrets, an alternative to the crowded Ghorepani Poon Hill, Mardi Himal, and ABC Trekking trails. It’s an "off-the-beaten-path “community-supported, a short trek in the Annapurna region. It offers 360-degree, unobstructed panoramic views of the central Himalayas, including the Dhaulagiri range, Annapurna I, II, III, IV, and Mt. Manaslu, which is a superior scenic destination for hikers and trekkers in the Annapurna mountain lab.

Itinerary

We greet you with a flower garland and drive to the hotel in Thamel. And an evening trip briefing at the hotel

We take a luxurious tourist bus to Pokhara. It starts at 7:00 AM in Kathmandu and reaches Pokhara in the evening. The bus will drive along the Prithvi Highway connecting to the South Asian countries and the famous Trisuli River bank. The views of the countryside with the terraced agricultural field lifestyle of local people are quite interesting. Also, you will see the high mountains such as Mt. Manaslu, the Annapurnas, and many other peaks along the way. The day-long driving will be an amazing exploration till you arrive in Pokhara. Pokhara is one of the best and most beautiful cities in South Asia. It has very nice places to see and visit. Check into the Comfort Hotel in Pokhara, and make a romantic evening exploration around the Phewa Lake and dinner around the lakeside somewhere in a gorgeous restaurant. And overnight at the comfortable and luxurious Hotel.

Your breakfast will be in the hotel. Leave some unnecessary pieces of baggage behind for the trek. You will get them back after you return from the trek. A private luxurious Jeep will drive all your team and trek staff directly to the famous Gurung village of Ghandruk. You will drive along the legendary and scenic highway till Nayapul. The driver will stop the Jeep at many scenic locations for great photos, as it is completely packed with the best natural scenery all around. The singing Modi Rivers, sky-touching mountains, terraced rice fields, decorative scattered villages, seasonal flowers and vegetation, animals, and beautiful forests, streams, and waterfalls views will make your driving in the countryside a very panoramic and joyful drive. The Jeep will just drive us to Ghandruk, then we must start our trek. Ghandruk is a very popular Gurung village, which has a very unique Gurung ethnic culture, traditions, and lifestyle. It is also known as the village of Gorkhas. The traditional Gurung Museum, lifestyle, typical houses, and customs are very attractive.

Tadapani

We take a small tea break and start walking up the forest trail. Mt. Annapurna ranges, Mt. Holy Fishtails, Mt. Hiuchuli, and super views of Lamujung Himal will assist the whole day until you arrive at the campsite. The trail is gradual uphill through the prime rhododendron forest. You will listen to the songs of Himalayan birds and will often meet white langurs in this forest. The trail is easier and exciting via forest, river, stream, rocks, and forest. You will make a break at a very beautiful place for the night.

Dobato

Breakfast at the hotel garden with the beautiful sun rising in the Himalayas. A massive rhododendron forest all around, and the peaceful environment in the lap of the mountains. Start trek after breakfast through the prime rhododendron and alpine forests. The trail is like a meditative way; you may feel very excited and blissful walking through this forest. You occasionally meet pastoral animals, often white langurs (Monkeys), in the bamboo forest, and the amazing sound of waterfalls from the Glaciers. There are fewer villages in this site, mostly pasture sites. We will take a lunch break somewhere in the good and beautiful lodge and walk for one hour to reach Dobato for the overnight. Dobato is a small settlement with nice lodges. In the past, it was a famous pasture field for the local people. This place is directly in front of the Annapurna South, Mt. Fishtail, Annapurna III, and so many mountains; thus, the sunset view is fantastic. If you arrive earlier, then we recommend climbing to the top pasture field to grab the best sunset views. The dining room will be comfortably heated with firewood in the evening.

We must hike very early with flash light up to Mulday viewpoint for the beautiful sunrise. Mulday is one of the best and most dominant viewpoints around the Annapurna Panorama trek. Descend down to the hotel for breakfast and start trekking towards Chistibang. The beautiful horizontal mountain views, wide landscape, pasture ridges, and Meditational walking trail through the alpine forest make the trek very impressive.

Bayali

Start your trek very early in the morning and reach Khopradanda in good time. There are many options for hiking for the day, such as an excursion to the holy Khayer Lake with pack lunch, or hiking a little higher up close to the alpine pastures Lake and see the beautiful surrounding views, or make some short excursions above the Khopradanda and return to the hotel and spend the night.

Khopra

If you want to visit Holy Khayar Lake, then you should at least need more than 10 hours. Also, you need enough drinking water, energy bars, and some warm clothes. A flashlight must be brought because sometimes you cannot return to the Khopradanda hotel in time, so it will help you for walking at dark. The holy Khayar Lake is impressive for Hindus and Buddhist religion, but the views are almost the same from everywhere.

Enjoy your breakfast and descend via Chistibang. The trail goes through the beautiful, peaceful forest, enjoying the songs of birds, rivers, and streams. Occasionally, you arrive at the human settlement, and mostly you need to walk through Oak, pine, bamboo, rhododendron, hemlock, and so many different kinds of Himalayan vegetation. The trail is often easy to follow and enjoyable. Finally, you will arrive at the most primitive and typical Poon village for the night.

Swanta

Today you will have enough time free for the day. You can do your laundry, enjoy beers or reading and writing, or explore the village.

The trail is often up, in some parts through the staircases, and you will arrive at Ghorepani by the Noon. If the weather is super fine, you can make a Poonhil viewpoint on the same day. If you are interested in the best sunrise, then wait until the next morning. Enjoy your day again on your own at the heavenly, beautiful place...

Poonhill

You must go to Poonhill viewpoint very early in the morning (5:00 AM), which takes 45 minutes hiking along the stone staircases. Enjoy the best views and descend to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, you have to trek down to Banthanti. The Jeep will be waiting for you there and will drive 2.5 hours along the bumpy road to Pokhara. Enjoy your free time in Pokhara.

Pokhara

It is your choice whether to travel by overland transportation or by flight to Kathmandu. Tourist bus tickets are included in the price, but the flight ticket price is an additional cost for yourself. If you use road transportation, it takes about 9 hours of driving, and if you take a flight, it takes just 35 minutes to Kathmandu. If you want to fly back to Kathmandu.

Useful Info

The Important Trip Features:

Duration: The Khopra Danda trekking on our plan is 10-days trip from beginning to the end. It starts with a drive or flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, and ends the trek at Banthati, then we drive to Pokhara- KTM.

Permits: You need Annapurna Conservation Area Project permits and a TIM’s permit, including trekking insurance for your trekking crews.

Cash: Have enough Nepalese Rupees (NPR) as ATMs are scarce on the trail, and credit cards are rarely accepted

Transportation: Deluxe tourist bus from KTM to Pokhara- 4x4 Jeep to Ghandruk and Banthanti- Pokhara. And the deluxe tourist bus returns to KTM. If you want to fly from KTM-PKR-KTM, we can arrange domestic flight tickets on your demand at additional flight costs.

Walking Trails: The trail often goes through the beautiful forest, ancient typical cultures villages, waterfalls, staircases, wilder pastures, ridges, and several viewpoints till the bottom of the mountains, crosses several suspension bridges, wild bees, natural hot springs, zig-zags up and down, and passes several river streams.

Walking hours per day: The itinerary is always eligible; your trek starts every day after breakfast. Take your own speed, enjoy your walking, and the views. Normally, walking hours are 4-8 per day. Early starts from Chistibang to Khopra Danda if you visit Khayar (holy Lake).

Landscape & temperature: There are amazing landscapes on this trek, it is a very comfortable temperature, and a green region. Very beautiful hills and hillocks, wide ranges of high mountains with beautiful views. Horizontal meadows and wide valleys with perfect temperatures. Alpine contour with the Rocky Mountains, face-to-face mountains. Minus 5 degrees at night at Khopra Danda in November, then everywhere is a comfortable temperature.

Accommodations and Food: Everywhere we can find very neat and clean local lodges and hotels with the best food items. Select the food according to your choices on the hotel's Menu. Almost the Menu is similar everywhere. They provide normal rooms with clean beds. They have a very wide, clean, and warm dining room. They provide a common hot shower, bathroom, and toilets. The attached bathroom at Khopra Danda is impossible, unlike everywhere it is possible.

Drinking water: Everywhere you can get fresh running water, but we recommend using some purifier tablets or a filtered water, or you can buy mineral water or filtered water.

Altitude Sickness: You should not be worried about altitude sickness on this trek. However, the Mountain has its own discipline; you cannot turn the character of the mountain into your character. Follow the theory of going higher and sleeping at a lower altitude. Go slower, drink enough water, take enough acclimatization, and supply enough energy. You may feel a bit of altitude symptoms during the visit to Khayar Lake. Otherwise, you should not be worried about altitude sickness on this trip. We recommend descending at a lower altitude if someone gets altitude sickness or takes some prescribed medicine for altitude sickness.
